The Wedding: Bridesmaid Dresses

Thursday, January 29, 2009

One of the things I thought would be the easiest to find and decide about were the Bridesmaid dresses. However, it has turned out to be a very long and difficult search. Here are a few I have found that I like the most. As always, I would love to know your thoughts.

Invitation Inspirations

Thursday, January 22, 2009

So, even though our invitations are designed (by Aaron!), I wanted to post the inspiration for the invitation. I think we were able to capture the best elements of the inspiration invitations and I am so very excited about how well our invitation came out!

I loved the monogram on this invitation.

I liked the use of color and the design elements.

I liked the horizontal design of this invitation,
as well as the pattern used on the left.

I liked the look and feel of the handmade paper
and the design pressed into the paper at the bottom.

I liked the use of one bold graphic in the corner.

The pattern used and the way in which the names
were incorporated into the design was appealing.

The "Arts and Crafts Movement" feel of
this design made it feel vintage and the
simplicity was stunning.

The Wedding: Flowers

Sunday, January 18, 2009

So, I have decided to start this new direction off with the flowers. All along, I knew that I did not want the typical roses. I wanted something that had more of a garden, timeless, organic, and vintage feel. So, hydrangeas were my flowers of choice. I love the fullness of hydrangeas and the antique vibe they lend. I guess this will also be an introduction to my colors and style as well. I would love feedback, thoughts and suggestions. I love getting ideas from others. I am constantly on the internet reading blogs and websites.

I am going to start out with the boutonnieres for the fathers and grandfathers and the corsages for the mothers and grandmothers.

I decided that something more simple and neutral would be best as I do not know what they will be wearing. I chose white rose boutonnieres for the  fathers and white rose wrist corsages for the mothers. Slightly more traditional, but still classic and different from everyone else.

The boutonnieres for the groom, groomsman, ushers and ring bearers will be a small orange flower. I am using orange as a very small accent color. I wanted to use orange, just not in a very big and too noticeable way.

At the church, flower petals cannot be tossed down the aisle unless an aisle runner is used. Because of this, I decided to go with a pomander instead made of green hydrangea. I like the look much better anyway and I think my little girls will look so sweet.

I still have not decided about the bridesmaids dresses yet (Which I  need to!!!), but I know what colors I am looking for so I was able to have a direction for their flowers. The bridesmaids bouquets will be hydrangea, a combination of light blue and green hydrangea or I may substitute one of the colors with ivory hydrangea. I am going back and forth on this. The images should give a better idea.

I was going to talk about my bouquet, but for some reason I was having problems uploading the example photo. I guess that will have to wait. There will be flowers at the end of the pews and a few other arrangements at the church that will be brought over to the reception.

Spring 2009

Sunday, January 11, 2009

This evening, I returned to Los Angeles to finish up my last semester of college. Wow. Who would have thought I would make it? Not me. When I started my Undergraduate career, I was very unsure of myself and if I could handle what would be required of me. I think I have done well for myself and found my way in the process.

After the last semester, Christmas break was totally needed. It was wonderful to be back home in the south where sweet tea is served at every restaurant, where there is hardly any traffic, and where I can drive my car by myself with the music loud. While home, I was able to see some friends I haven't seen in a while like Philip, Nichole, Julian, Matt Roden, and Elizabeth. These people are very important figures in my life and unfortunately our paths are starting to cross less and less.

Also while home I did a ton of work on the wedding, mostly this past week. The major thing I am lacking is a solid reception location that doesn't cost my whole budget and is a cool location. I found a gallery I love, but the owner is worried about the economy. I have also decided within this time that I want to dedicate this blog more to the wedding and keeping the three people that read this thing up-to-date on what's going on. There will probably be posts about what is going on with the rest of my life every now and then, but this blog will now focus a bit more on the wedding. I will post some inspirations, colors, and anything else I find interesting. There will obviously be some things I do not reveal as I do not want to give it all away before July.

I also promise to update more often than I have in the last six weeks. For some reason I can find time to update when I am at school and not when I am at home on break. :)
